Bathshua

From Monarchists.Wiki

Bathshua, or Betasuel or Bedsuel, was a wife of Judah. She was the mother of Er, Onan, and Shelah. Bathshua was a daughter of Shua and a Canaanite.

Jubilees account[edit]

Due to Bathshua's ethnicity, her son Er sought to have a Canaanite wife, but Er's father Judah did not permit it and had Er marry Tamar, an Aramite, instead. Er then refused to have intercourse with Tamar. Er was wicked, and God killed him in judgment.

Judah then had Bathshua's second son Onan marry Tamar in accordance with custom. However, Onan knew that any offspring of his with Tamar would legally be considered offspring of the deceased Er; thus, if he and Tamar were to have children, they would displace him in the line of succession per primogeniture. In order to prevent Tamar from conceiving children, Oran would pull out and ejaculated onto the ground instead of into Tamar's womb.

Judah then promised Tamar Bathshua's third and sole remaining son Shelah in marriage once he matured enough. However, when Shelah matured, Bathshua did not permit him to marry Tamar.

Bathshua later died, and Tamar tricked Judah into having intercourse with her. Tamar then conceived twins with Judah, and the twin were named Perez and Zerah.
