Candace (Acts)

From Monarchists.Wiki

Candace (Kandake) was the title used by queens of Kush. A particular Candace possessed an eunuch who traveled to Jerusalem in order to worship. The eunuch met Philip the Evangelist on the return journey and became a Christian.

An angel of the Lord directed Philip to a place to meet the eunuch: Get up and go south to the road that runs from Jerusalem down to Gaza (Acts 8:26 (AMP)). The eunuch was reading a passage (Isaiah 53) from the prophet Isaiah, and the Holy Spirit directed Philip to meet with the eunuch: Go up and join this chariot (Acts 8:29 (AMP)).

Philip did as he was commanded and asked the eunuch if the eunuch understood what he was reading. The eunuch said that he needed some guidance: Well, how could I [understand] unless someone guides me [correctly]? (Acts 8:31 (AMP)). He invited Philip to sit with him. The eunuch asked Philip who was being mentioned in Isaiah 53: Please tell me, about whom does the prophet say this? About himself or about someone else? (Acts 8:34 (AMP)). Philip explained the passage, connecting it with Jesus, and taught the eunuch about Jesus.

They then found water, and the eunuch asked to be baptized: Look! Water! What forbids me from being baptized? (Acts 8:36 (AMP)). Philip told told him that he can be baptized if he believed with all his heart, and the eunuch said that he did believe in Jesus Christ: I do believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (Acts 8:37 (AMP)). Philip then baptized the eunuch. When they went out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly transported Philip to Azotus (Ashdod). The eunuch rejoiced and presumably returned home and brought Christianity to Kush.
