Gortwog gro-Nagorm

From Monarchists.Wiki
(Redirected from Gortwog)

Gortwog gro-Nagorm is a fictional Orsimer nationalist and founder and king of Nova Orsinium developed by Bethesda Game Studios for the role-playing game The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. Gortwog won the land for Orsinium by defeating Breton lord Bowyn is a duel.[1]

In Daggerfall, the player may choose who receives the Totem of Tiber Septim, and through it, command of the Dwemer golem and super-weapon the Numidium and its power source the Mantella – Gortwog being one of the selectable beneficiaries. In order to have all possible player options in Daggerfall be equally valid as canon, the developers of Daggerfall's sequel Morrowind crafted the "Warp in the West", where Gortwog and six others canonically gained control of Totem of Tiber Septim simultaneously and reshaped the land in a way that allowed each faction, including the Orsimer, to benefit.[2]

Due to the Warp in the West, Gortwog was able to have Emperor Uriel Septim VII recognize Orsinium as a kingdom of High Rock and the Orsimer as Imperial subjects with equal rights before the law.

Quotes[edit]

Gortwog

Lady Med[ora,]

[…] favor. They [Lord Woodborne] intend to slay him [King Lysandus of Daggerfall]. I am sending [arch]ers to stop them. You must support me. If the empire finds I have attacked royal advisors of Wayr[est, e]ven if they are assassins, my people will never win the same status and respect as the Khaji[it or the Argon]ians. However, with your support I c[an be recognized as] a hero of the empire, and win respect for my people.

Gortwog

[Player],

You are not orcish. How could you possibly understand what it is like? My people are treated like barbarians. Slaughtered upon sight. Is it so unusual that we respond in kind? Violence begets violence.

I aspire to raise my race from the mire. I will bring them to equal standing with the other races of Tamriel. To do this I must have the Totem of Tiber Septim. I will not insult you by promises that no blood will be shed. I do swear by my crown and by my heirs I shall not attempt to hold sway beyond the borders of Orsinium. My goal is not to conquer Tamriel, but to create the orcish homeland. I am in possession of an artifact that I am sure you would want to possess. It is yours if you but give me the Totem of Tiber Septim.

If aided by the player[edit]

Gortwog

A nation of Orcs is within my grasp. You have given my people a chance at freedom, [player]. Should you ever recover the Mantella itself, I shall reward you thrice over for it.

— Gortwog gro-Nagotm, in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall

Under the command Gortwog, Numidium destroys the other powers of Iliac Bay: Daggerfall, Sentinal and Wayrest. The new orcish homeland is carved out for Orsinium. And the Empire will never be able to dispute Gorthwog's claim to orcish equality.
