Wise woman of Abel

From Monarchists.Wiki

The wise woman of Abel who played a decisive role in ending Sheba's rebellion against King David of Israel.

Sheba, son of Bichri, rebelled against David. Sheba took refuge in Abel Beth-maacah, and David's men, under Joab's command, besieged the city.

The wise woman asked to speak with Joab, and Joab agreed to listen.

In the past people used to say, They will certainly ask advice at Abel, and so they settled the dispute. I am one of the peaceable and faithful in Israel. You are seeking to destroy a city, and a mother in Israel. Why would you swallow up (devour) the inheritance of the Lord?

— 2 Samuel 20:18–20:19 (AMP)

Joab then stated that he only sought Sheba, not the destruction of the city. The wise woman then promised to hand over Sheba's head: Behold, his head shall be thrown to you over the wall (2 Samuel 20:21 (AMP)). The woman then told her people of the agreement, and they beheaded Sheba and threw his head to Joab. Joab then lifted the siege. Thus, the city was saved from destruction.
